About PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a regenerative treatment that uses nothing but your own blood. A small sample is drawn, spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, and the plasma that results is injected back into the area being treated.

Those concentrated platelets carry growth factors that support the skin’s own repair processes, stimulating collagen and improving texture and tone over the weeks that follow. Because the material comes from you, there is no synthetic filler and no risk of reacting to a foreign substance.

What to expect

Your treatment, step by step

  1. Consultation to assess the area, your goals and your medical history
  2. A small blood sample is drawn, much like a routine blood test
  3. The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets
  4. Numbing is applied, and the prepared plasma is injected into the treatment area
  5. Aftercare guidance, and a plan for any follow-up sessions

Aftercare

Caring for your results

Do

  • Keep the area clean and let any pinpoint marks settle on their own.
  • Expect mild redness or swelling for a day or two; this is a normal part of the response.
  • Drink plenty of water in the days around your appointment.
  • Sleep with your head slightly raised on the first night after a face or under-eye treatment.
  • Contact your practitioner if you have prolonged pain, spreading redness or anything that concerns you.

Avoid

  • Do not touch, rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours.
  • Do not wear makeup for 12 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and hot tubs for 48 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after your session.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen around your appointment, as they can blunt the response.
  • Do not sunbathe or use sunbeds for two weeks, and apply sunscreen daily.
  • Do not have other facial treatments, waxing or chemical peels for two weeks.

What is PRP?

Is there any downtime?

Most clients return to normal activities the same day. Mild redness or swelling is common for a day or two, and pinpoint bruising can occur.

Is PRP safe?

Because PRP is made from your own blood, there is no risk of allergy to a foreign substance. It is not suitable for everyone, so we review your medical history, including any bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medication, before treating.
